Manhattan is home to many of New York's premier tourist attractions. Starting in Lower Manhattan is Wall Street, the center of the financial world and home to the New York Stock Exchange and Federal Hall. To the south, out in the harbor are the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

To the north, in Midtown Manhattan, the Empire State Building dominates the surrounding area, while the iconic Chrysler Building stakes its ground nearby. Disney Magic Kingdom Park

Orlando is one of the biggest tourist destinations because of the nearby theme parks and resorts. About 35 minutes southwest of downtown Orlando is the world famous Walt Disney World. Close to International Drive is Universal Orlando Resort and SeaWorld Orlando.

Chicago, IL

The Loop is the center of Chicago and the most iconic section of the city. On the east side of Michigan Avenue is Grant Park. The centerpiece of the park is Buckingham Fountain, which is sometimes accompanied by music and colored lights.

To the north is Millennium Park, which aside from plenty of grass and open space, has modern sculptures in steel and glass, including Chicago's newest must-photo for visitors, The Bean (known as Cloud Gate).

On Wacker Drive is the Willis Tower (formerly named Sears Tower), a popular destination for tourists. The Willis Tower has an observation deck with high up views overlooking Chicago and Lake Michigan.

Chicago's set of museums and cultural institutions are among the best in the world. Three of them are located within a short walk of each other in the Near South, on what is known as the Museum Campus:

• the Adler Planetarium, with all sorts of cool hands-on space exhibits and astronomy shows;
• the Field Museum of Natural History, which features SUE, the giant Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton; and the
• Shedd Aquarium, with dolphins, whales, sharks, and the best collection of marine life east of California.

A short distance away, in Hyde Park, is the most fun of them all, the Museum of Science and Industry - or, as generations of Chicago-area grammar school students know it, the best field trip ever.

The most famous shopping street in Chicago is a stretch of Michigan Avenue known as The Magnificent Mile, in the Near North area. It includes many designer boutiques, and several multi-story malls anchored by large department stores.

San Francisco, CA

San Francisco is well-known for its liberal community, hilly terrain, Victorian architecture, scenic beauty, summer fog, and great ethnic and cultural diversity.

Perhaps the most recognizable landmark in San Francisco and one of the most famous bridges in the world, is the Golden Gate Bridge, spanning the Golden Gate. Washington, DC

Charleston's primary attraction to visitors is its historical setting and landmarks. Some sites to visit include the Battery and White Point Gardens, City Market, and Waterfront Park.

The Battery and White Point Gardens is a park located at the southern tip of the Charleston peninsula with beautiful views, especially along the Battery Promenade by the Cooper River. Don't miss the elegant historic mansions along the Promenade.

The Market is an old shopping district at the foot of Market St. where vendors still sell wares.

Waterfront Park is a twelve-acre park along approximately one-half mile of the Cooper River.

Outside downtown, there are numerous beach towns that are considered part of the Charleston area. Folly Beach is certainly the most casual. Sullivan's Island and Isle of Palms are more upscale.

New Orleans is known for a host of attributes like its famous Creole food, abundant alcohol, music of many styles, nearby swamps and plantations, 18th & 19th century architecture, antiques, gay pride, streetcars, and museums.

Miami Beach, FL

Located on a barrier island east of Miami and Biscayne Bay, Miami Beach is home to a large number of beach resorts and is one of the most popular spring break party destinations in the world. Because of its length, it is generally broken up into two or three districts, with South Beach being the more popular by far.

South Beach has one of the richest cultural scenes in the Miami area, focused on the arts, with world-famous architecture in the Art Deco District along Ocean Drive. On the beautiful beach, you can rent beach chairs and umbrellas; stroll along a walking trail; and enjoy watersports.

Lummus Park, South Beach's most famous beachfront park, is located along the party hotspot that is Ocean Drive, from 5th to 15th St. A wavy pedestrian walk called the Promenade weaves through the north end of the park and up along the beach to 21st St, where it turns into boardwalk.

Palm Springs, CA

Biking, golf, hiking, horseback riding, swimming, and tennis in the nearby desert and mountain areas are major forms of recreation in Palm Springs. The city is famous for its mid-century modern architecture and design elements.

Palm Springs has a pedestrian friendly downtown. Visitors can enjoy the palm tree lined streets along Palm Canyon Drive and Indian Canyon Drive. Many boutique shops, outdoor restaurants and art galleries line the streets.

Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is a good place to go to get away from the heat. It has incredible views at night and snow in the winter.

Sunnylands is a magnificent estate of the Annenbergs that has hosted many world leaders and been called the "Camp David of the West." There is world-class artwork, the exquisitely-designed house, spectacular views, and impeccably maintained gardens.

Los Angeles, CA

Most first-time L.A. visitors will want to visit Hollywood, Universal Studios, and Venice Beach as their top priorities within the City of Los Angeles itself.

However, many other landmarks generally associated with L.A. are technically not located in the City of Los Angeles, but are in adjacent cities or unincorporated areas. For example, Rodeo Drive is found in Beverly Hills; the Santa Monica Pier, the Third Street Promenade, and Santa Monica Beach are in Santa Monica; studio facilities for NBC, Disney, and Warner Bros. are all found in Burbank; and the Sony Pictures Entertainment studio is in Culver City.

Malibu is about half an hour's drive west of Santa Monica. Disneyland, Newport Beach, and South Coast Plaza are all located over an hour's drive to the southeast in Orange County.

Sedona, AZ

Known for its beauty and serene setting amidst the beautiful Red Rocks, Sedona is famous for its vibrant arts community with nearly 100 art galleries and events. It offers excellent outdoor adventures, including mountain biking, hiking and off-roading. Sedona is surprisingly sprawling, with Oak Creek, West Sedona and Uptown Sedona each providing great views, hikes, dining and arts.

Sedona Driving: Driving around gives you great views of the rocks. Beautiful views start on the Red Rock Scenic Byway also known as the gateway to Red Rock Country; it starts soon after you exit I-17 and ends in Sedona. Near the beginning of this Byway (south of the Village of Oak Creek on SR 179), there's the Coconino National Forest Visitor Center where you can get maps.

Sedona Hiking and Biking: Canyons, creeks, hikes and mountain biking trails surround the area. To hike, one needs a Red Rock Pass from the Sedona Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center (Red Rock Pass is needed to park at the trail head, hiking is free to all).

Seattle, WA

Downtown is Seattle's retail core, home to the waterfront, the Pike Place Market, and some of the most stunning architecture in the city.

Pike Place Market is Seattle's largest tourist area and the oldest continually operating farmers' market in the United States. It is home to the famous fish market, original Starbucks Coffee shop, and a large indoor and outdoor market. Nearby is the renowned Seattle Art Museum.

A short monorail ride away from downtown is Seattle's most iconic landmark, the Space Needle. Surrounding the Space Needle on the grounds of the Seattle Center are several more big museums, including the Pacific Science Center, an interactive science museum, the Experience Music Project, a Rock & Roll museum with a special Jimi Hendrix exhibit, and the Science Fiction Museum, home of the Science Fiction Hall of Fame.

Savannah, GA

Each year Savannah attracts millions of visitors to its cobblestone streets, parks, and notable historic buildings. The city's location also offers visitors access to the coastal islands and the Savannah Riverfront, both popular tourist destinations.

Savannah's downtown area, which includes the Savannah Historic District, the Savannah Victorian Historic District, and 22 park-like squares, is one of the largest National Historic Landmark Districts in the United States.

River Street, a popular cobblestone street along the south bank of the Savannah River, is lined with numerous tourist-targeted shops and restaurants. The sculpture of the Waving Girl is towards the east end of River Street. The rest of the Historic District is on a bluff above the riverfront and is connected with River Street via stairs or ramps.

Two blocks from River Street is historic City Market, Savannah's restored central market which features antiques, souvenirs, small eateries, as well as two large outdoor plazas.

Branson, MO

Branson is sometimes referred to as a "family-friendly Las Vegas" because of the numerous shows and attractions, as well as the flashy building decorations and neon lights. The collection of entertainment theaters along 76 Country Boulevard (and to a lesser extent along Shepherd of the Hills Expressway), including Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede, has increased Branson's popularity as a tourist destination.

Located in downton Branson on Lake Tanneycomo is the Branson Landing Shopping Center. Check out the huge waterfront fountain in the central square where every 30 minutes you can see choreographed fire, water, and light shows set to music.

Also downtown is the historic Branson Train Depot. The railroad takes you on a 40 mile round trip ride through the beautiful Ozark countryside.

A popular attraction located between Branson and Branson West off of Missouri Route 76 is Silver Dollar City, an 1880s-themed experience that fits Branson's vision as a family-friendly vacation destination with down-home charm.

Nashville, TN

Perhaps the biggest factor in drawing visitors to Nashville is its association with country music. Many visitors to Nashville attend live performances of the Grand Ole Opry, the world's longest-running live radio show.

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum is another major attraction. The Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center, the Opry Mills regional shopping mall and the General Jackson showboat are all located in what is known as Music Valley.

Nashville is a very historic town and as such, many of its attractions are restorations or museums.

• The AT&T Building is an instantly recognizable downtown Nashville landmark. It's the tallest building in the state of Tennessee. Its two tall spires on the building have earned it the nickname, "The Batman Building."

St. Louis, MO

It is said that St. Louis is second only to Washington, D.C. in the number of free activities available in an American city.

Forest Park is one of the nation's largest city parks with 1,293 acres, open to the public for golf, tennis, bicycling, boating, fishing, ice skating, and more. The park is also home to the St. Louis Science Center, the art museum, the zoo, and a history museum, all with free admission.

In downtown, the Gateway Arch, the world's tallest man-made monument, forms a triumphant city skyline.

Just north of the Arch is Laclede's Landing. There are cobblestone streets and shops, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs. Nightly horse-drawn carriage rides take you around the Landing and much of Downtown.

Myrtle Beach, SC

Myrtle Beach is situated in the center of a large and continuous stretch of beach known as the Grand Strand in northeastern South Carolina.

The area's attractions include its beaches and courses, as well as a number of amusement parks, an aquarium, Legends In Concert, retail developments, a number of shopping complexes and over 1,900 restaurants. The area also has dinner theaters, nightclubs, and many tourist shops.

Broadway at the Beach is the largest festival entertainment complex in South Carolina featuring theaters, restaurants, shops, and attractions. For the kids, the attractions include Ripley's Aquarium, the Walking Waterball and MagiQuest, a virtual reality walk-through game, Myrtle Waves Water Park and Nascar SpeedPark.

Built around a beautiful 27 acre lake, Barefoot Landing focuses more on the naturally beauty of Myrtle Beach and combining it with shopping, dining and entertainment.

The Carolina Opry is another highly acclaimed attraction, which features various musical, comedy, dance, and entertainment shows.

Lahaina, HI

Lahaina is one of the main attractions on the island with an entire street of shops and restaurants which leads to a wharf where many set out for a sunset cruise or whale watching journey. It is known as the gateway to the pristine beach resorts of Kapalua and Kaanapali which are located just to the north.

Other attractions in Maui include the Hāna Highway, Haleakalā National Park, and Iao Valley.

Ft Lauderdale, FL

Fort Lauderdale is known as the "Venice of America" due to its expansive canal system. The city is most famous for its beaches and boats, and while the city of Fort Lauderdale is relatively small in area, the term 'Fort Lauderdale' is often used to refer to the larger metropolis that has grown up around it.

The "Strip" also known as A1A is amongst the most popular locations in Fort Lauderdale. There are a wide array of shops, restaurants, bars, and hotels amongst the strip creating a very unique experience right on the beach. The most popular section of beach is where A1A runs along side the beach, between Las Olas Blvd north to Sunrise Blvd.

The entertainment district runs east-west along Las Olas Boulevard. East Las Olas Blvd has a mile of upscale shops and restaurants. The RiverWalk runs along the north side of the new river, from the shops at Las Olas to the performing arts complex.

The metropolis has lots of malls. The closest to the beach is the Galleria at Fort Lauderdale, about 10 minutes walk from the beach along Sunrise Blvd. The biggest by far is the Sawgrass Mills located in Sunrise approximately 20 minutes west of Fort Lauderdale. With over 350 stores it is one of the largest outlets in the USA. There is also the 'Swap Shop', that bills itself as 'the largest Drive-In movie theater and daily flea market in the world.'

Austin, TX

Visitors are initially drawn to Austin for hip culture, live music, great food and late nights. But there are plenty of other attractions. Visitors can see great historic Texas landmarks, wander neighborhoods committed to the city slogan of ‘’Keep Austin Weird’’, visit great museums and picnic in lush parks.

The State Capitol is a beautiful building wrapped in Texas pink granite. Independent-minded Texans take pride in the fact that the State Capitol is actually 14 feet taller than the U.S. Capitol.

Austin's Congress Avenue bridge is home to about 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats. This is the largest urban bat colony in the world. The bats are generally active at dusk every evening between March and November. Visitors can catch them either from the banks of the Colorado River or on a boat tour.

Downtown is the heart of the city, where it's non-stop activity day and night. South Austin across the Colorado River is historically the more diverse section of the city. The avenue is now packed with restaurants and cafes, great retailers and boutique hotels. West Austin is the historic area of the city. The "Balcones Uplift" creates gorgeous panoramic views of the city. It is the go-to district for fine dining.

Many of the city’s museums are on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin, between Downtown and Central Austin. Congress Avenue cuts through the center of the city and is also the go-to spot for eclectic art galleries, museums and Texas pride.

St. Augustine, FL

St Augustine is a small jewel of a city on the east coast, full of romantic ambiance and old world charm. It is best known for its remarkable historic streets, Spanish style architecture, and panoramic bay.

Wander down St. George street, a promenade of sorts, and enjoy the art galleries, quaint shops, and restaurants. At the northern end of the street, visitors can explore historic sites like the Old City Gates and the Oldest Wooden School House, built over 200 years ago while Florida was under the rule of Imperial Spain.

Within walking distance is the Castillo de San Marcos, the oldest masonry fort in the continental United States.

Also on St. George is the Colonial Quarter, a revitalized two-acre attraction in the heart of the downtown historic district. The Historical Adventure Tour will immerse you in the sights, sounds and smells of three centuries. You can also also climb to the top of a 17th century watchtower replica.
