Each year Savannah attracts millions of visitors to its cobblestone streets, parks, and notable historic buildings. The city's location also offers visitors access to the coastal islands and the Savannah Riverfront, both popular tourist destinations.
Savannah's downtown area, which includes the Savannah Historic District, the Savannah Victorian Historic District, and 22 park-like squares, is one of the largest National Historic Landmark Districts in the United States.
River Street, a popular cobblestone street along the south bank of the Savannah River, is lined with numerous tourist-targeted shops and restaurants. The sculpture of the Waving Girl is towards the east end of River Street. The rest of the Historic District is on a bluff above the riverfront and is connected with River Street via stairs or ramps.
Two blocks from River Street is historic City Market, Savannah's restored central market which features antiques, souvenirs, small eateries, as well as two large outdoor plazas.
Savannah Historic District Illustrated Map is an award-winning map of the Historic District. The map not only show all major attractions in vivid color and detail, but also list historical facts, ghost stories, and even hidden gems. The Map is available at the Visitors Center and select retailers throughout Savannah.
